@@SanguineSketches thanks for your question! If you’re using Photoshop I can’t be of much help because I never learned that program. However, in procreate, that could be happening if you have a blend mode turned on. To check this, in the layer there should be an N next to the check box. ☑️ This means the blend mode is set to Normal. If it’s set to another letter such as M for Multiply, you can tap it and set it back to N

You can download free brushes but not from Etsy.

I don't see an 'Open in Procreate' line on the bar in Files. I've also tried procreate's Import, and dragging and dropping from Files in the main procreate menu, and into a procreate project's layer menu.

@@sockrabbtt from the files app, tap the share button. Then either scroll down to find Procreate or scroll left on the contact circles to find it.

@@sockrabbtt sorry, my bad! I meant scroll left on the app icons beneath the contact circles. If it’s not there, tap the “… more” icon at the end. Then you can scroll and find procreate there.

It’s the icon in the top right that looks like a pointed finger. Any of the brushes in that menu can be used to smudge.

Thank you for watching and commenting! You are 100% correct! What I love about Procreate is that there are more than one way to do things and achieve the results you want. There is no right or wrong way for any of these if it’s meeting your needs of want you want to achieve. Procreate didn’t always have these features either so those of us who have been using it for years, know steps for getting the same result without the features. So, choose whichever one you’re most comfortable or confident with and play around with the features as you go. ❤

In this tutorial I’m actually using one of my brushes I made for lettering because it hides the shaky lines 😅 You could also use the Monoline brush that comes with Procreate under the Calligraphy set.
